Where to go in and near Freital

There are many touristical highlights in Freital and surroundings

The city of Freital is located southwest of Dresden, the capital of saxony, in the direct neighborhood to the „Rabenauer Grund“ and the „Tharandter Wald“.

Take your chance for a ride on the oldest narrow gauge railway of germany, the „Weißeritztalbahn“, including the stream locomotive which resumed its service between the stations Freital Hainsberg and Kipsdorf after the destruction of the railway by the flood in 2002.
Clear road-signs show you the way to the highway, which is reachable in only 15 minutes. Furthermore, we can offer a particularly well connection to bus and rail by a five minute walk.

It will take less than 30 minutes by car, or only 12 minutes by train to reach the city of Dresden which is known as a baroque city all over the world.
Visitor attractions are the Church of our Lady, the Semper opera, the Dresden Zwinger and the famous Brühlich Terrace. Furthermore you can find about 35 museums and exhibitions, numerous shops, restaurants, pubs, bars and cafæs and some very beautyful pathways to take a walk at the elbe.

By taking the train you also have good connections to visit the saxon switzerland with its bizarre rocky landscape, inviting you to go hiking. A visit to the Königstein fortress or a shipping tour on the elbe would be other attractive highlights.
Take a look on the baroque hunting lodge in Moritzburg („3 Wishes for Cinderella“ has been filmed here), the venison reserve, the stud farm or take a walk on the renovated castle street.

Meißen invites you to visit the worldwide known porcelain manufactory, the Albrechtsburg and the cathedral.
In Freiberg, a mining city, you can learn some mature facts about the history of ore mining, or you can visit the cathedral with its famous Silbermann Organ and the Freudenstein Castle showing the „terra mineralia“ exhibition.
